In December 2024, a capacity-building workshop was held in Amman, Jordan, bringing together the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA), the International Water Management Institute (IWMI), and the Jordanian National Agricultural Research Center (NARC). This event aimed to address the growing challenges related to food security, water, and climate in Jordan.
The workshop was based on the Innovation Packages and Scaling Readiness (IPSR) methodology of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR), with the objective of providing stakeholders with the necessary tools to adapt and scale agricultural innovations suited to Jordan’s resource constraints. Participants benefited from hands-on training sessions, analysing innovations from ICARDA, IWMI, and NARC, including rangeland restoration and water-saving technologies. These case studies served as models for developing scalable solutions to Jordan’s agri-food challenges.
The workshop pursued three main objectives:
- Showcasing innovations: Participants explored advancements designed to enhance water and food security under challenging conditions.
- Capacity building: The IPSR methodology enabled stakeholders to assess scaling readiness and tailor innovations to local contexts.
- Strengthening collaboration: The program emphasized partnerships between public, private, and academic sectors to promote sustainable initiatives.
This workshop is part of CGIAR Initiative on Fragility to Resilience in Central and West Asia and North Africa, reflecting Jordan’s ongoing commitment to turning challenges into opportunities through science and innovation.
